Symbian UI update awaited this year

Nokia is going for Windows Phone 7 and that means that their Symbian platform will die slowly in the following years. It seems that they are still going to release updates for it. Marc Driessen, Nokia Benelux product manager, brought up that we can anticipate a few Symbian updates coming in 2011.

There will not be any Symbian^4 descending from Nokia, but we'll see a few scheduled UI updates moved from the 4th into the 3rd. Concording to Driessen, Nokia is pointing a major UI overhaul in the autumn, an update reported to admit these features:

- a dedicated pull-down status bar up top
- new iconography
- new flexible widgets
- a simplified navigation bar below
- better menus

I really hope they will release some updates for Nokia N8, because my phone is begging for it. High-Def Youtube playback would be great. It's frustrating that I can only watch youtube videos in 320x240.

Although Nokia HQ didn't specifically named a date, the autumn timeline does correspond other reports saying that a smaller update for N8 and E7 users could follow  this summer.

Google Nexus S vs Apple iPhone 4

This is an extended comparison between Google Nexus S and iPhone 4 via PhoneArena.
It was hard to miss the WVGA video recording capability of Nexus S, compared with the 720p video recording of the iPhone. Apple's FaceTime app is better than any video call software provided by Android.

HTC DROID INCREDIBLE Android Phone (Verizon Wireless)

Ear piece is good and so is the microphone. The outside speaker can play ringtones very loud and clear and vibrate mode works excellent too. If you've been looking for a phone where you can use MP3s for ringtones, this is it! It has been a lot of fun, and I don't have to pay for ringtones anymore.

This phone can do almost anything, and it can do it really fast. It is one of the fastest, if not THE fastest phone out there. This is due to its snapdragon processor. HTC Sense rocks IMHO, and I am very impressed with the camera. It takes excellent pictures, but the flash can wash out the picture if you are too close. Battery life has been fine for me. Be sure to get an appkiller application from the market, and use it. It helps with battery life! I also turn off 3G, WiFi, and/or bluetooth from time to time and that helps too. Yes it has an onscreen keyboard, but it is a good onscreen keyboard with tactile feedback. I got used to it pretty quickly.

It has a glass screen and I have had it for a few months and not put any scratches on it whatsoever. I bought the verizon hard silicone "glossy" case. It is the best one I've seen and I am thrilled with it.

Nokia N8 Unlocked GSM Touchscreen Phone with GPS Navigation, Voice Navigation, and 12 MP Camera

This phone has some incredible features at this unlocked, off contract price. This is a 3G pentaband WORLD phone which will work on both AT&T and T-Mobile. It has a 12MP camera with a CCD sensor 3 times bigger than iPhone 4 and even larger than purpose built high quality camera's like the Panasonic LUMIX ZS-3. It has a Xenon flash for excellent night time shots. The N8 shoots HD 720p with HDMI and DOLBY Surround sound output! The camera's optics are specially designed and made by Carl Zeiss, and it has AutoFocus and a mechanical shutter for big camera capabilities in a compact form factor. The phones body is a single piece of Anodized, scratch resistant Aluminum, with Gorilla glass front. It has a new generation AMOLED display with anti-reflective layer. The N8 also sports Bluetooth 3.0, so you can use a wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse simultaneously. It also has USB on-the-go, so you can directly use mass storage devices like a hard drive or USB flash memory. The phone has the latest Symbian^3 OS, with multi-touch, actual multi-tasking and avoids the double tapping of older Symbian versions. The software also includes on-board and robust photo and video editing. The N8 also uses a faster GPU than the iPhone 4 (SOC GPU), called the Broadcom BMC2727, for a great gaming experience which you can also pipe directly to an HD TV and play on the big screen. It also comes with free turn by turn navigation, available in 74 countries. Of course, its a Nokia so Video Call capability is a given. Battery life is exceptional.
